facilities

The RA facilites rival or exceed most commercial garages I have come across and are under constant development to try and improve cleanliness and productivity.

The roof has recently been lined with plastic and covered with hardboard to try and keep the heat in. The result is the workshop can now be maintained at 22°C over 700sq. feet with a single space heater even when it's 0° outside.

Layout

The workshop measures approx 700sq. ft and is split into four sections with one section have a sub section.

I will soon be installing two moveable partitions. One running the whole width of the workshop to seperate the store/fibreglassing and fabrication/assembly areas. The other will seperate the store and the fibreglassing area.

Assembly / Minor fabrication / Kitchen Area / Parking Bay 1

This is the cleanest part of the workshop used for assembly only. At the rear is the kitchen area complete with breakfast bar (all reclaimed from the yard yet again).

A desk is also provided for electrical or any detailed work. I have a surface plate that will be installed in this area at some point (when I get round to making the stand).

Fabrication (Metal) / Parking Bay 2

A picture of the fabrication area including the main working area and benches. Hand tools are stored in the wall cupboards, the TV needs moving to the kitchen area as it does hurt when you bump into it! I need the TV to watch F1, it isn't on at any other time.

To the left is the drill press covered in the next section...

Heavy Machinery

To the left are the heavy tools used for fabrication.

These include...

  • » No. 5 Fly Press
  • » Metal Bandsaw
  • » Drill Press
All powered machine tools are single phase.

Fibreglass / Woodworking / Spraying / Camper Parking Bay

This area still needs some work, behind the camper are wall mounted cupboards for storing resin, hardener, brushes etc. There are also wall mounted rollers for matting.

I will install a fold out worksuface at some point, although this will probably wait until I need to do some more fibreglassing.

Entrance / Parts and Materials Storage / Parking Bay 3

At this time I have a single Dexion rack measuring approx 1m wide by 0.3m depth, all other materials are stored in cardboard boxes along the wall. I would like to install racking along the entire wall as well as parts bins and high level racking for metal sheet and tube.
